Defining Pranayama Pra: bring forth Prana: the life force that animates all existence or that which causes animation of life force Ayama: to stretch or expand life force, dimension Pranayama: breathing in and breathing out with conscious awareness to encourage balance and harmony of internal energy; to expand the dimensions of prana within the body. Prana and the Body Eastern medicine believes prana or qi is the animating force of our life. It permeates us down to a cellular level and is responsible for the way things move within us. The way prana moves or doesn’t move in the organs and meridians (pathways) directly affects our mental, physical, and emotional health.
